For Salma and Doug, the question for their elopement was simple: “London or Paris?”
But the answer was clear –“New York City.”
After 15 years together, their story led them back to the place where it all began. The city they once gallivanted through as young, in love 18-year-olds became the backdrop for the next chapter of their lives: a 2pm civil ceremony at City Hall. Their families even flew in to witness their intimate celebration, making the day feel even more meaningful and complete.
As an NYC wedding photographer, moments like these are why I love what I do. There’s something incredibly special about photographing not just a wedding day, but a new beginning, a continuation of a story that’s been unfolding for years.
After their legal ceremony, we headed to The Beekman Hotel to do portraits that felt elegant, warm, and uniquely “them.” The Beekman’s iconic architecture and moody charm paired perfectly with Salmas sense of style and her second wedding dress of the day. Documenting their quiet moments, shared smiles, and excited energy was such a joy.
Salma and Doug reminded me of what makes this city so magical: it holds pieces of people’s histories, and, if they’re lucky, it becomes the setting for their future, too. Being their NYC wedding photographer was an honor I won’t forget.
If you’re planning your own elopement, whether at City Hall or one of NYC’s hidden gems, I’d love to help tell your story as your NYC wedding photographer!
