When people think of winter in New York City, they often picture perfectly fresh snow, cozy coats, and cinematic movie moments. But the reality of New Years Eve weekend in the city is usually a little grittier.. Somehow though, that imperfect version of the city always feels the most authentic to me. These winter West Village engagement photos hit the spot.
Lottie and Alex were visiting from Australia and wanted to spend part of their trip documenting this season of life in a way that felt fun, relaxed, and very NYC. They had JUST gotten engaged! Instead of overplanning every detail, we simply wandered. My favorite kind of session!
We started in the West Village at their hotel – The Marlton of course – weaving through brownstone-lined streets while trying to keep our hands warm between photos.
One of my favorite things about photographing couples visiting New York is that the session becomes part photoshoot, part memory-making experience. There’s less pressure for everything to feel “perfect,” and more room to simply enjoy being together in the city. Lottie and Alex fully embraced that energy. We laughed our way through the cold, stopped spontaneously whenever good light hit a street corner, and eventually made our way into SoHo as the afternoon light started to soften.
More of sessions like these please!!
